AMEX CAPN
AMEX CAPN is a new format requirement for processors. According to CAPN, additional data has to be send to the processor with every transaction.
Deadline
Compliance Deadline with the new American Express specifications is August 31, 2007.
Non-compliance Fees
If merchants point of sale system has not been upgraded and certified with American Express by August 31, 2007, then a noncompliance fee of $0.50 per transaction on all American Express transactions will be assessed.
Upgrade Path
Which merchants are affected?
Only merchants using Split-Dial and Split-Settlement (Reverse PIP) are affected by this requirement. Merchants that accept American Express through a processor (default setup) are automatically upgraded and should seek confirmation from their processor that they will be compliant by the deadline.
Split-Dial and Split-Settlement IP Replacement
911 Software is currently working with American Express to bring you a new product - AMEX IP Split-Auth and Split-Settlement (IP Based Reverse PIP). 911 Software CreditLine Credit Card software will be among the first to offer full support for this new AMEX product. If the merchant is currently using Split-Dial for American express, the software will have to be upgraded to the version that supports the AMEX IP compatible product. All of the credit cards will then go through IP high speed. A beta version of the software can be downloaded from Beta Versions Section of911 Software Downloads Page
Benefits of AMEX High Speed Processing
- No need for dial-up modem
- Significantly faster processing
- Improved reliability
- Better rates, after adding the new easier high speed AMEX split-settlement.
Non-IP accounts
Merchants that have no access to IP (DSL, Cable, etc) and are using Split-Dial will have to convert to processor based (non-Reverse PIP) AMEX processing. Split-Dial and Dial-Up based Split-Settlement is being phased out in favor of AMEX-IP processing.
